Who is a Good Candidate for PRP Injections?
Men and women with hair loss, such as androgenic alopecia, telogen effluvium, or alopecia areata, are good candidates for PRP injections. People see better results when PRP is used in the early stages of hair loss, as more hair follicles are available to activate. Patients that are completely bald with no hair available in the areas to be treated are not good candidates for PRP injections as this treatment will not bring dead follicles back to life.
How Is PRP Therapy Performed?
Once comfortably seated in a private procedure room, we'll draw a vial of blood from your arm, about four tablespoons. The blood is placed in a centrifuge, spinning at high speed to separate the platelets from the other components. The blood is ready for injection in about 5 – 10 minutes. We will load the condensed plasma into a sterile syringe and inject it into the predetermined locations on your scalp. Dr. Pearce and our skilled team use a small 4 mm needle to precisely deliver PRP to the areas of your hair follicles that matter most. Following the PRP injections, you might experience raised areas for about 20 minutes, but the swelling will gradually subside, returning you to your usual appearance. Dr. Pearce recommends refraining from strenuous activity on the day of your treatment.
When Can I Expect to See Results From PRP Injections?
The PRP injections are given once a month over four months. Patients typically notice results about six months after beginning treatment.
