Be Confident Shirtless

Whether you've had excess tissue on your chest since you were a teenager, or perhaps you've recently lost a lot of weight, you aren't alone. Gynecomastia, commonly known as male breast enlargement, affects roughly 50 to 65 percent of men during their lifetime. Fortunately, treatment options are available, enabling you to confidently reveal your chest at the gym and beach. We have helped many Austin, TX men reclaim their self-confidence, and we are excited to partner with you to reclaim yours.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition resulting in a feminine chest from excessive breast tissue growth. In many cases, gynecomastia is related to an underlying hormonal imbalance. Certain drugs, including steroids, significant weight gain or loss, or genetics can also cause this condition. Men with this issue often feel embarrassed, especially when the chest is exposed at the beach, pool, or gym. This surgical procedure has a very high success rate. Dr. Pearce performs surgical breast reduction for men with gynecomastia in the Austin, TX area.

How Is Gynecomastia Treatment Performed?

Gynecomastia surgery can be performed on suitable candidates while awake in the office or under general anesthesia in the operating room. Liposuction is generally used to reduce excess fat tissue from the chest wall after numbing the target areas with local anesthesia. Next, Dr. Pearce makes a small incision along the border of the areola, where the dark skin meets the lighter skin of the chest. The thick fibrous glandular tissue is carefully removed, enhancing the male chest contours. In most cases, there's no need to remove excess skin as it naturally tightens over time. However, if there's a significant excess, we delicately trim it for a tighter appearance and optimally position the nipple. Once your gynecomastia removal surgery is complete, you must wear a compression garment for several weeks. Where are the incisions made for gynecomastia surgery?

Dr. Pearce's priority is to conceal the incision, minimizing visibility after surgery. His approach involves placing one incision in the underarm area and another small incision on the border of the areola and chest wall skin. The result is incisions that heal very well and are inconspicuous when your shirt is off.

What can I expect if I'm a suitable candidate to be awake during gynecomastia treatment?

After determining you are a good candidate for gynecomastia treatment, surgery is performed while you are awake here in our procedure room. We administer an oral sedative to help you relax throughout the surgery. The numbing process is more comfortable using PRO-NOX™, commonly known as laughing gas. After a short duration, Dr. Pearce performs liposuction and gland excision while you remain awake and comfortable. Patients must have someone available to drive them home safely after the procedure.

How long before I see my final results from gynecomastia treatment?

It will take six months to see your full results. This duration allows for decreased swelling and the natural contraction of the skin, helping to improve the contours of your chest wall over time.

When can I go back to work after gynecomastia treatment?

You can return to work in a few days if you spend long hours behind a desk and no longer require pain medication. If your job involves heavy lifting, Dr. Pearce will discuss your job duties with you and create a plan that allows you to return to work as soon as it is safe without jeopardizing your results.

When can I resume all of my regular activities after gynecomastia treatment?

After gland excision with liposuction, patients can resume normal activities like returning to the gym in three weeks. Waiting for six weeks before returning to gym activities is recommended for patients who underwent liposuction and gland excision, with a large amount of skin removed.

Dr. Pearce was on call at Round Rock Medical Center at a very difficult moment for my family. My son experienced a very bad motorcycle accident on Sept. 12, 2022 and Dr. Pearce operated on him to repair the cosmetic results of severe head trauma. He has operated on my son 3 times, the last one being 2 days ago. He did miraculous work in restoring my son’s head shape and eye socket to normal. He worked for 6.5 hours in surgery this time to fix some abnormalities and my son looks great. We are so grateful to Dr. Pearce!

After a major weight loss and a few uncomfortable consultations, I decided to look outside the San Antonio area to have a tummy tuck and an arm lift. Dr Pearce was my first consultant after expanding my search. When I walked in his office, I was greeted with the biggest smiles. After meeting Dr Pearce, I knew I found my surgeon!! I’m a year post op and feel amazing! Dr Pearce is a perfectionist!! I’ve recommended him to a couple people!
