What Is Chin Liposuction?

Dr. Pearce offers chin liposuction, a minimally invasive procedure that effectively improves chin and jawline definition. A specialized hollow tube removes fat from the chin and neck region, reducing bulk to unveil a more chiseled and well-defined profile.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Chin Liposuction?

Patients with fullness beneath the chin and along the sides of the neck are good candidates for chin liposuction. Those in their 20s and 30s typically respond well to chin liposuction without skin tightening, while those in their 40s to 50s might require skin tightening based on their level of skin laxity. Dr. Pearce has found that patients ages 50 and older may be better candidates for a neck lift as chin liposuction alone may not provide optimal results due to sagging neck muscles.

How Is Chin Liposuction Performed?

Chin liposuction can be performed either under general anesthesia in an operating room or local anesthesia in an office setting. Dr. Pearce begins by creating small incisions to insert a hollow tube into targeted areas of your chin and neck. Gentle suctioning off of fat then helps create your desired look. The incisions will be closed using small stitches, and a compression garment will be placed to reduce swelling. Chin liposuction often results in a smooth and even profile with less fat below the chin.

What Can I Expect During Recovery After Chin Liposuction?

During the initial two weeks after surgery, refrain from intense physical activities. Patients can gradually reintroduce light exercises and return to regular activities by week four or five. Dr. Pearce will provide a supportive compression garment following your chin liposuction procedure, which must be worn continuously for 5 – 10 days. The garment must then be worn at home or during sleep for the next seven days.

Safety is the primary focus of your procedure. Dr. Pearce will consider your medical history and discuss your comfort level with awake in-office liposuction or being under general anesthesia in the operating room before making a recommendation.

Dr. Pearce places one incision behind each ear and one under the chin, using a special scalpel that creates a tiny circular hole exactly 2.5 mm in size. Once sutured, these incisions promote superior healing, resulting in a blended appearance similar to a skin blemish.

Patients can expect final results about six months after the procedure, with about 90 percent of results visible 3 to 4 months following surgery.
